There are a fuckton of DSLR cameras out there. Some are good, but most aren’t. Okay that’s a lie. Its actually pretty hard to find a ‘bad” camera out there these days, but there are definitely some cameras that are better than others. Almost all of them claim to be among the best value on the market. Spoiler – most of them aren’t. I have used a lot of dslr’s though, and in my mind its clear which one is the best value. For the purposes of this article, I am going to make the judgement based on 4 main things. Price(obviously), functionality, build, and image quality.
The obvious choices for a DSLR are Canon and Nikon, but Sony and Pentax have made descent ones as well.
If you are looking for the best bang for your buck though, Nikon is hands down the clear winner. Not only do they make very good lower-end DSLR’s, but they have over 100 years worth of incredible, dirt cheap lenses that will(for the most part) work on all of their current cameras with just a few limitations.
Plus, there is a massive used market for Nikon cameras, meaning that you can save a lot of money buy buying used, and selling your old gear. And with Nikon’s build quality, you won’t have much to worry about as far as defects in their used cameras.
Of all of Nikon’s great cameras, the d3300 is by far the best value. Although its missing a few “professional” features like high speed sync, Ai-s metering, etc, the d3300 in and of itself has almost everything you will ever need to take great photographs. Plus, it’s build quality goes far above and beyond it’s price point.
The image quality of the 3300 is really amazing for its price as well. It sports the same sensor as its big brother the d7200, and gives even full frame sensors like the one in my d610 a run for their money. And with 24 megapixels, you can make some massive prints, even at moderate ISO’s.
Buy it. You should. Especially if its your first “real” camera.
Seriously though, I have owned a lot of cameras and it still amazes me how good of a camera the d3300 was for the money. If I was starting out fresh today, I would buy it again without hesitation.
P.s. this is in no way sponsored by Nikon, I just think the D3300 is wayyy better than any other camera at its price point.
